The big mammals as we call them are hay burners this time of year. It's been quite challenging getting the hay to them twice a day in the big snow conditions. Here they are munching away - even Burtee tried to get in on the action!!

"That's A Nice!!"
It's an "Italian" sentiment that describes in broken English a positive feeling about "whatever". It is also the punch line in a very funny joke. I will let today's guest, Anthony Marciona share the joke in the comments of this blog post!!
"That's a Nice!" is also the name of the specialty food company that Anthony started with his partner, Joseph LoBue who are both Sicilian-American - Anthony from Pelham, NY and Joseph from Louisiana. The two matched wits, food memories and recipes to offer up a host of sauces, soups and spreads that are evocative of the way "momma used to make."
Anthony and I grew up together in Pelham, NY. Spend an hour listening to us reminisce about Pelham, our food histories and how Anthony turned his food memories into a food company!! Made from all locally sourced ingredients, vegetarian and authentic. Also, check out Anthony's bio - he's going to be dancing on Glee in a couple of week!! How cool is that!!

Oatmeal has been a favorite breakfast in my house. Ever since we had it at the Pocono Manor Inn when I was probably 5 years old - so creamy, warm and delicious!! It's always been my goal to make it like I remember having it there!! Afterall, it sticks to your ribs and I suppose that means it's good for you!!
Fast forward to adulthood - we now know the cholesterol healing qualities of oatmeal - so it's healthy and tasty - a winning combo.
I found the oatmeal cannister at an antique shop a few years ago so I can prominently feature it on my counter everyday!!
And the good news, Bob's Red Mill makes gluten free oatmeal so Jim can eat it too!! My newest favorite way to prepare it - use almond milk and dried organic bing cherries - it maybe tied for first with the oatmeal I remember from the Pocono Manor Inn!!

I am one of the lucky few that were selected to participate in the audience of TEDxManhattan - "Changing the Way We Eat" this coming Saturday, February 12th.
TED, as many of you know is an organization that provides a forum for ideas worth spreading. The "x" is for independently managed forums with the blessing of TED.
TEDxManhattan's theme is right up my alley - according to their website,"The one-day event will highlight several aspects of the sustainable food movement and the work being done to shift our food system from industrially-based agriculture to one in which healthy, nutritious food is accessible to all.
Speakers with various backgrounds in food and farming will share their insights and expertise. Relevant clips from the TED conference will be shown. And, hopefully, we’ll have a few surprises during the day. A highlight of all TED and TEDx events is the ample time given for attendees to meet each other and look for new synergies and new ideas to help bolster the sustainable food movement.
I am so excited to hear all the speakers and look forward to the possibilities!!

This winter is for the birds - whatever that means!! Truly epic in the amount of snow, number of cold days and how hard it must be on the animals. Today, I share our bird feeder - it is a busy and social place. Photo Opps are not easy though because the second I try to snap a pic - they fly away. Here's one I was able to capture during one of our ominous weather days.

And then there's Uni - whose place in the kitchen at night offers her warmth and protection. She doesn't go to far - here she is near the back door willing to pick up the scraps from the bird feeder.
How certain am I that these birds and all the animals, wild and tame, hope the groundhog was right? 100%!!
