Ms Murky Mondays:
To Our Health!

Having just shot 16 videos with a focus on healthy, diabetes-friendly recipes I exist in the extreme consciousness of healthy eating/living.  So when I had a weird pain in my right calf for days - it didn't feel muscular, or charley-horse-like - I began to worry.  My symptoms were deep below the muscle, a slight burning and a nuisance.  And as most of us do - I go to WebMD and input my symptoms and I get "CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY" I read more - oh my, it could be a blood clot.  So I was convinced for the past 3-4 days that I had deep vein thrombosis.  I am happy to report, a doctor's visit and trip to the hospital for a ultrasound later, I am OK!!!

Tears of JOY!! Merry Christmas. Thank you angels!

So I can go back to sharing my diabetes-friendly recipes.  And go back to working hard and loving life.  Don't take your health for granted!! Please eat well!!

So please check it out, the first of 16 - click on the cheesecake torte.

Ms Murky Mondays:
Reflecting on Serendipity

Life speeds by.  I am guilty of moving from one important task/client/responsibility to another.  While I am thankful, I rarely get to savor anymore. But my mind savors and my thoughts wander and create the "Nice Things To Do List." On that list, I want to thank Rick Iemolini for recommending my interior decorating services to Nancy Fernandez Mills last winter. In the serendipity category, it turns out that Nancy is a TV producer, had produced a show on PBS, and is now interested in health counseling, nutrition and food. And she writes the blog content for Liberty Medical which offers products for people with diabetes.  And the next thing you know, Nancy asks me if I'd be interested in developing some recipes and shooting some videos for Liberty Medical.

How cool is that!!  We've shot 16 videos.  But the topic of diabetes and its epidemic proportions is not lost on me.  My grandmother had diabetes.  My dear friend John Kaiser had diabetes, my new friend, Alex Elman had diabetes (she had a pancreas and kidney transplant it was so severe), and countless others are suffering.  And through Nancy, I have developed recipes that are diabetes-friendly.  WOW!

Here's a photo of Nancy and Me from the video shoot last week.  A big thank you to you Nancy. xxoo

Loving WNYT

Stepping into the WNYT studio is now almost old hat.  But what is now so flattering is the greeting I get from the entire crew - Ben Gorenstein, the producer, Dan Bazile, the anchor and Tim Drawbridge, the weatherman.  Hugs, High Fives and jokes abound.  All I can say is thank you for embracing me!!

And, here are some photos of the Sugar Cookie Trees and some behind-the-scenes at the studio.

Oh and here is the recipe for the sugar cookies.

Ms Murky Mondays:
Many Hands Make Light Work

Even though I had to ask....the troops performed!! My step-daughters, Meredith and Caroline and their Aunt Madeline and Uncle Paul washed, peeled and chopped sweet and regular potatoes in record speed for our Thanksgiving fete.
Paul pitched in with his caramelized onions and Matt performed his magic on the sweet potatoes.

Liberty Medical Diabetes Videos

Well, well, well.....it's Monday already and there is much to do.  Next Monday and Tuesday we will be shooting 8 webisodes for a company called Liberty Medical.

My mission: Make 8 Heirloom Recipes diabetic-friendly.

The recipes I will be doing:

Pumpkin Cupcakes
Apple Cheesecake Torte
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies (gluten free as well!!)
Chicken Breast Cacciatore
Nana's No-Fail Baked Fish
Roasted Pork Tenderloin and root vegetables
Turkey Meatballs
Jen’s Simple Pizza

The recipes are written and tested.  The cool thing is, with the exception of the cupcakes and torte, my other recipes are healthy in their own right and did not need tweaking!!

So stay tuned as I share this journey with you!! And remember, November is National Diabetes Month!!
With diabetes becoming an epidemic,  I am happy to be involved in a project to help people eat better.
