Life at Boulderwood:
A Late Arrival
Could it be? A baby chick is hatched in autumn? Indeed it is. And Mommy bird is doing a great job. Birth is a miracle and hard-wired genetics are fascinating. I tried to put some water and food nearby and Mommy bird bit me. And to that I say, "why mess with nature?" She knows what's she's doing. Who needs humans anyway. Lesson learned!!
Because I couldn't get close - this photo isn't a good one - but "Harvest Moon" is alive and peepin'!!

The Grass is Always Greener
Animal Tales from Boulderwood Farm - the Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side. Isn't it?
When the whinnying and the mooing sounded like it was coming from my back door....well, it's because it was....
The entire herd - all three horses and all three cows were acting out the great escape the other night and partied like it was 1999. Julia was eating apples right off the apple tree; Mr Johnson stuck his head over the fence of my veggie garden and ate some broccoli; and the horses, horsed around all night - I don't even want to tell you where I found hoof prints.
I guess it's something in the cool, fall-like evening air...or... perhaps the grass really is greener on our side of the fence!

Rescuing Painted Turtles
Jim and I get really angry when people run over turtles on our road. It's a country road, not a super highway and believe it or not there are a lot of Morons (sorry for the strong sentiment) that drive 50 mph down our street and squish these beautiful creatures. We take great pleasure rescuing these painted (and even snapping) turtles when we see one on the road. We drove this beauty all the way to the swamp to insure his/her survival!! Viva la turtle!!
