Martha writes the New York Times column, Recipes for Health and has just come out with her 27th (yes I said 27!!) cookbook, The Simple Art of Vegetarian Cooking. Martha grew up in Connecticut and now resides in California. Her many years of cooking and writing recipes is very present in her latest book as she creates templates that give the reader a basic guide but then allows the reader to use seasonal ingredients and encourages using one's own creativity. I love that notion of codifying her most used techniques and then givig the reader permission to use the technique in any way they desire.
