Canelazo (Spiced cinnamon rum drink)
Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 lime juice
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- 4-6 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 4 oz aguardiente (or to taste); can also use rum
Directions
- Bring the water, sugar, lime juice, salt, cinnamon sticks and cloves to a boil. Let simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the orange juice.
- Add the aguardiente or rum. Then reheat it without boiling (If it boils the alcohol will be cooked out).
- Strain and serve hot.
- Prep time: 10 minutes
- Cook time: 20 minutes
- Total time: 30 minutes
