Heirloom Meals: Savoring Yesterday's Traditions Today

Miles Olson

Miles Olson brings an entirely new perspective to my show. I wanted to interview Miles because I truly believe that hunting is part of all of our ancestral roots.  We have just become so far removed from the actual act of killing  our food that many people, ignorantly, believe hunting is barbaric. Miles, in his book, The Compassionate Hunter's Guidebook, Hunting from the Heart, demonstrates that hunting is the complete opposite.

Miles is truly one of the most thoughtful, provocative, sensitive and philosophical guests I have ever had on my show. We discuss the paradox of being in nature and how nature can teach you things about yourself that a city could never. As a hunter, he believes the animal is a higher being than us because we need them to survive. There is gravity to taking a life. But we cannot separate the interconnection of food, death and life. They are a complete cycle. This notion has been lost in our modern culture of cryovaced meats.

Miles has left an indelible mark on me. Honoring our food has become a theme for me. Come November, I may even take up hunting.......Enjoy the show!!
