Heirloom Meals: Savoring Yesterday's Traditions Today

Jean-Martin Fortier

Jean-Martin Fortier grew up in the suburbs of Montreal with an unremarkable culinary experience. Upon graduating from McGill, he set off on an adventure to learn how to farm organic food.  During those 2 years he became connected with natural world, and decided that he could impact the world in a positive way and become a market gardener with his girlfriend, now wife, Maude-Helene. They grew a successful market garden on less than two acres by implementing what they learned about permaculture and intensive cropping systems.

Jean-Martin has written The Market Gardener: A Successful Grower's Handbook for Small-scale Organic Farming as a handbook for aspiring farmers to help them start their businesses by sharing the know-how he has collected over the years.

I hope you enjoy this engaging conversation.  The book is an excellent reference for anyone who gardens - I have found so many tips especially on weeding!!
